We will arrive at your hotel or hostel at 7:30am with our vehicle ready to begin a great day of rafting on the Pacuare!

All of our guides are bilingual, so they will be explaining about the surrounding area as you make the 2 hour drive to the put in for the Rio Pacuare. Along the way, you’ll pass the Turrialba Volcano (an awesome view!), as well as a number of small Costa Rican towns.

After arriving to the Pacuare River put in, we will explain all of the safety features of our equipment and features of the Rio Pacuare. We will start out with a few exercises to get the group ready to take on the rapids, and then begin our 3 to 4 hour descent down the Pacuare River.

The first 45 minutes of your trip down the Pacuare River will be a great time to warm up your arms, test your skills on the class 2 and 3 rapids, and get in-sync for the bigger rapids down river!

Along the way, our guides will be teaching you about the natural surroundings and keeping their eyes peeled for wildlife along the indigenous reserves.

After about an hour of rafting, you’ll get the chance to check out and immerse yourself in a waterfall! This waterfall is a great place to take a little break and enjoy the energy of the water in an entirely new way…beneath a waterfall!

You’ll continue off after enjoying the beautiful waterfalls and get ready to take on Upper and Lower Huacas rapids. You’ll pass by a big, 100 foot waterfall that dives into the river and then head right into Upper Huacas. Upper and Lower Huacas are great rapids and two of the rapids that make Rio Pacuare one of the best rivers for whitewater rafting in the world.

After navigating through these two rapids you will continue on, passing stunning valleys and most likely spotting some wildlife!

At the time of lunch, your guides will prepare a meal you will not forget! Using the raft as the ideal table for a rafting trip, you’ll eat some great food, relax, discuss the great time you’ve had thus far, and make your way back on the river again!

You’ll take on the famous rapids of Cimarrones, Double Drop, and Dos Montañas. You will definitely know once you have arrived to Dos Montañas – this spectacular canyon is ideal for jumping out of the raft and floating down the river. It is truly a surreal feeling lying back floating down this part of the Pacuare River. Many people say that this is their favorite place in all of Costa Rica!

You’ll continue on past Dos Montañas and make your way further down the river for some more Pacuare rapid action, finally leading to the take out at Siquirres bridge.

Your guides will pack up the vehicles, and we all drive back to San Jose to drop you off at your hotel (2 hours of driving).

You can expect to be back in San Jose at around 3 or 4pm depending upon conditions.
